The Faiencerie de Gien was founded in 1821 by an Englishman from Stoke-on-Trent, Thomas Hall, with the aim to introduce fine English earthenware to the French. 190 years later, Gien is an integral part of France’s cultural heritage, praised by many around the world. Since its very beginnings, Gien has learned to perfect the art of manufacturing ‘faience’. Although the company has developed modern techniques to keep up with the times, it continues to honour the most traditional practices including paper printing and hand printing. With distinct personality, Gien pottery boasts rich colours and a fineness variety of shapes.

Over the 19th century, the company became well-known as the supplier of bespoke dinner services for many aristocratic families across Europe. Gien has supplied over 2,500 families with plates adorned with family crests or monograms.
