While Savernake maintains that any carving knife – kept in good condition of course! – will slice through bread without a problem, there are times when serrations play a role. They've chosen 4mm serrations for the bread knife as this allows everything from crusty sourdough to soft white to be cut up without making a hideous mess – and it is also perfect for dealing with a large Beef Wellington.
